Welcome message:
Welcome to EDPM everyone. This is your teacher, Mrs. Charles-Ford. Our focus for today is on an Introduction to
Proofreading. This podcast will be used
in collaboration with a YouTube video and a PowerPoint presentation.
I am confident that you will be able to achieve the objectives outlined for this lesson:
1. Define what is meant by the term 'proofreading'.
2. Use the proofreading acronym to identify mistakes in a passage.
3. Produce a final document free of errors.
During this lesson you will be required to view a YouTube video and use a PowerPoint
presentation. All the materials have
been posted on Google Classroom.
I wish you all the best as we proceed.
Lesson content:
Step 1:
Define what is meant by the term 'proofreading'.
This is the process of reading through a document to identify and correct
errors or rearrange the text. Sometimes
we are working so quickly that common mistakes are made such as omissions,
insertions and transpositions.
Step 2:
Use the proofreading acronym to identify mistakes in a
passage. The proofreading acronym is C.U.P.S, which stands for Capitalizations,
Usage, Punctuation and Spelling. The YouTube video will give you further
details on how you use these. Click the link on slide 7 of the PowerPoint
presentation.
Step 3:
Produce a final document free of errors. For this objective
you will complete a Word processed document. Click the link on slide 9 of the PowerPoint
presentation and you will find the document that you are required to complete.
Conclusion
Today we looked at an Introduction to Proofreading. For our next lesson we will cover proofreader's marks and working with abbreviations. Please answer the following questions and submit on the Google classroom:
1. What is proofreading?
2. List four kinds of errors you must search for when proofreading.
Well done in Lesson One today. I look forward to you joining me for Lesson Two.
